We would like to help you enjoy a simple country life by sharing J-B Rustic
Farm experiences and education.
· The Vegetable garden is where we share our gardening experience plus provide you with information on planning your own garden and tips on growing your vegetables. Our favorite vegetables are tomatoes and peppers
· Country Cooking is a collection of our favorite recipes and simple cooking tips gathered from “been there done that” as we share what worked best for us. I have also included my recipe for cooking apple butter on the fire.
· Edible plants information on the plants growing wild on our farm and surrounding areas that you can use for food and medicine. We will also provide some history of how settlers of West Virginia used these same plants to survive. (Sumac, dandelion, blackberries, ramps)
. Goat Farming is our story about farming goats and information needed for you to raise your own goats. A great place to start is learning about the types of goats, two we are interested in are Nigeran dwarf and meat goats.
This is just to get you started on the road to your Simple Country Life. There is more to come....
Through our education and experience we both have been involved in farming and conservation practices our entire lives. Growing up in West Virginia has given us the opportunity to experience firsthand many of the traditions the frontier settlers brought with them. Our love of history and the respect we have for these resilient people have taught us a great deal about loving the land and its wildlife. We have taken a special interest in learning the techniques that were used to live and survive off of the land.
Soon we will start sharing ideas on making homemade crafts by using traditional methods such as blacksmithing, log furniture making, basket weaving, spinning, cornhusk dolls, candle making and natural dying and weaving just to name a few.
Our hope is that these traditions and practices will not be lost while embracing new technology.
J-B Rustic Farm was established in 2015. It is located in West Virginia on the site of the reclaimed No. 9 coal mine. We have a great deal of family history in this area and our honored to have the opportunity to own this section of land.
We look forward to sharing our journey with you.
